Painting the town red

So, I had to write a short piece on “painting the town red”. Problem is that I never really cared for that activity so I failed to experience it. Thus the result was a short rant by a slightly amused, slightly annoyed and slightly bored guy that just wanted to have some fun. And this is the final product:

“Painting the town red, this is an activity designed by South American countries with the sole purpose of increasing the global level of caffeine consumption. While engaging in this activity, one is supposed to go through the town armed with a paintbrush and a bucket of red paint. After going back and forth for awhile, one can step to the next level. Intoxicated with paint fumes and tired of carrying the bucket and brush, one stumbles from bar to pub and back again, in order to relax a bit.

After a couple of shots of various magically delicious potions, one freely returns to painting the cityscape. The then process starts all over again as it was scientifically proven that the combination of paint fumes and pubs leads to temporary loss of memory. In the morning one awakes from the trance and goes to the nearest coffee shop to get their hands on the fuel of modern society...pure, solid gold; also known as coffee.”

Night. Sorry if anyone got offended. I am sure that no one is a caffeine addict; it's just that we all like it so much that we need it. *whistles* G'day & g'night! :)

coffee - there are so many things about coffee that are great, especially metaphorically. i love using it as an effect in what i write, not so much as a drink.

you did not address why someone would want to paint the town red. personally, i don't like the negative connotations.

so i'd rather paint the town blue - if you know what i mean.

hey there,

yup, coffee is a great little thing. and we all love it and its relative, chocolate.

As for not addressing why someone would pain the town red...well, first of all, i had a word limit. Then comes the tricky part. You can never know why different people do the same thing. Therefore I wanted to avoid making assumptions. I just went after the concept and it's result.

People go, have fun and then drink coffee in order to be able to function. All in all, simply enjoying life. Not my cup of tea, but i don't see anything bad about that. :) Nitey

i meant the negative historical connotations of painting the town red (smearing the town with innocent people's blood). but i realise you only approached it in a very down-to-earth, direct way.

and yes, chocolate is one of my vices. coffee, chocolate, tobacco for some, drugs for others, alcohol for most, or sex. it all comes down to pleasure.
