“It is the nature of man” to be arrogant enough as to use the word nature in association to a limited concept. The “nature of man” is a concept as old as the proverbial sea, but is it correct? Can nature be defined just by one component?
Nature is but a person just like every one of us. It breathes, it can be wounded; it can dream and have nightmares. It has a job and works for a living just like us. It is our non-stop babysitter, the one that takes care of us twenty-four – seven.
Nature is our guardian. He sits around us ready to shield us at all times from all dangers that He can face. He wields unconventional weapons such as tenderness and time in order to shelter us from all that threatens to harm us be it even ourselves. He sits and waits for us to grow; He sits in as the eternal Father figure. It is a “He”, for it is stern and strong.
Nature is our teacher. They come around us and show us all that we need to know. They try to make us see things in all possible ways, in all shapes and colors. They try to get us to pay attention to what is happening all around us. It is a “They” for there are many things to learn and so are the faces Nature takes in order to teach us.
Nature is our mother. She gives us birth and she guides our first steps. She nurtures us and gives us the support that we crave. She leads us through love and gentle words. It is a “She”, for there is no limit to Her generosity and patience; there is no place for anything but forgiveness.
Nature is us. We are there for one another. We are there to learn from each other, we are the ones that always tend after those around us. We are our guardians, our teachers, our mothers and fathers. It is a “We”, for We are one, one whole made out of many pieces.
Nature is self. I am self-sufficient. I am self-aware and self-controlled. I am selfless and selfish at the same time. I am what I am and it is so because I am unique. Nature is unique and so are all its pieces for no two are alike.
Nature is others. You are that which is there. You are that which keeps us sane and You are that which drives us insane. Insane with joy, grief, hope, dreams and anger You make us. It is a “You”, for it could be no other that is more similar to ourselves.
Nature is androgynous, nature is all colors and all sounds. It is beast and plant, human and animal. It is all that is and more. Nature doesn’t care about what, who or why. Nature is open-minded; Nature has clear horizons and sees all that we can imagine.
Apparently yes, nature can be defined through just one component. That is not so because it lacks complexity. That is so because nature is the grand 1000 piece puzzle, the greatest doll factory ever. That is so because nature is life and so are we.
