Productive Idleness

"I am doing dilly squat; it's a subject that requires great care and patience," he said. "One wrong move & we'll be blown to little magical bits, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if I didn't happen to have this terrible allergy to little magical bit."

What's the point of the string of words located right above this string of words? Well, it's just a little comment about the hardships of having free time on your hands. After all, this is a very serious problem that we all end up confronting sooner or later.

And it's not until it happens after a busy week that you realize that free time is actually very hard to deal with. After any time consuming activities are accomplished there's only thing left to do - to relax; never an easy task. You always seem to be dumbstruck by such a change of patterns.

So this is how it happens that after burning your batteries faster than you thought you'd be able to replace them you suddenly realize that all is done and you're finally able to relax. First comes joy, then comes energy then comes boredom with a very large plan in mind. And this is never a good sign.

The reason why I say this is because it usually happens to me once in awhile. It usually sneaks up on me by making me believe that vacation is just what i need and i do not realize that it's actually pulling my leg. I pay attention to its laments and i find myself sitting idly for a couple of days until the accommodation takes place.

Now the thing is like this: you can't work nonstop (no, you really can't and really should - "all work and no play...") and you can't be bored nonstop either. So what can you do when you have a lot of free time? You use it creatively. :)

You open that old book you got as a present a couple of months ago and finally make it past the first five pages. You pick up some CDs with those old computer games that you were so good at and play them for the X time. Either that or you pick one of your favorite pastimes or come up with a new one (how does bungee-digging sound?).

That's about it. Point was there's no need to complain about free time since you can always find something to do, you just have to want to use that time for what makes you happy. Right now for me that thing would be sleeping and dreaming. :)

G'day & g'night! See ya! :)
